The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned the global death toll could hit two million before an effective vaccine is widely in use. Addressing the World Health Assembly on Monday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: "We might be tired of Covid-19. But it is not tired of us." US has most cases and highest death toll The US has now recorded more than 10 million cases and almost 240,000 deaths from coronavirus, the highest figures in the world. For almost a week, more than 100,000 new cases have been confirmed each day, as infections continue to rise across the country. The growth in infections slowed in August, but has been rising since September, driven by renewed outbreaks in the north of the country.
